Programme 4.11.2018: Viticulture. Future. Danube Region

Conference “Viticulture.Future.Danube Region - The effects of climate change on viticulture and wine tourism” (11:00 am - ca. 4:30 pm)

The Deutscher Weinbauverband e.V. (DWV - German Winegrowers‘ Association) organises under the support of the ministry of Baden Wurttemberg (MLR) the conference “The effects of climate change on viticulture and wine tourism”.

The aim of this conference is to put a professional network in place among the winegrowing countries of this important Central European region as well as to encourage those working in the viticulture industry to share their experiences of climate change with the politicians of their country.

DWV and MLR are convinced that that the winegrowing businesses in the Danube region have all to face more or less the same challenges and therefore should develop solutions in common. The professionals and experts for winegrowing who take part at the conference will follow up with the effects of climate change on the entire production process, marketing for wine and tourism included. As exemplary consequences of the climate change and possible approach to the problems they will discuss topics like extreme weather events (e.g. severe precipitation) and erosion control, cloud seeding, late frost protection, protection against plant diseases, drought and irrigation, new varieties, new vine training systems, etc.

In order to elaborate solutions the co-operation of politicians, representatives of the administration and the wine sector is vital. And when it comes to initial conclusions for the winegrowing policy the experiences and demands of the professionals have to be respected adequately.

The conference is part of the 63rd International DWV-Congress and INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA HORTITECHNICA 2018. It takes place at the ICS - International Conference Center Stuttgart (Room C7), which is situated right near Stuttgart fairground and airport.

Note: Speeches and discussions are interpreted in German and English.
