These were some of the warnings seen in the last few weeks which make it clear that climate change is becoming more and more apparent in Europe, and that the wine industry is faced with more and more varied and unpredictable challenges! How can an efficient and sustainable viticulture be achieved in this context?

At the DWV, we believe that all actors and process steps need to be included in finding solutions to complex issues, which is why we want to invite you to the 64th International DWV-Congress from 10-12 April 2022. We want to create an international platform where representatives of science, viticulture, the supplier industry and politics sit down together to discuss what needs to be done for the wine sector of the future.

This is why we are pleased that the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) supports this format and has renewed the patronage of the 64th International DWV-Congress.

Prof. Monika Christmann, Vice President of OIV, says “We’ve supported the DWV-Congress for a number of years with its scientific, yet solution-oriented approach. The theme for 2022 “shaping change in the wine sector sustainably” in particular gets to the heart of what’s going on and the variety of challenges winegrowers are facing. This is because it's not just the climate which is changing – legal requirements and customer demands must also be taken into consideration. Using less resources and biodiversity are just some of the new burning issues.

The network and the impulses which the DWV-Congress provides, are indispensable in order to keep up with this rapid change and sustainably position oneself for the future.”
