64th International DWV Congress in digital form

Due to the latest developments regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the German Winegrowers’ Association has decided to hold the 64th International DWV-Congress in April 2022 entirely online.

“We need planning reliability at this stage – both for us as the organisers as well as for our speakers and participants coming from abroad. This can only be guaranteed if we choose a format which is independent of any possible restrictions which may be imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We want to avoid having to cancel an in-person event at short notice in any case”, says Secretary General Christian Schwörer.

The association decided against postponing the event because of its theme of “Shaping change in the wine sector sustainably”. “We decided at the last DWV board meeting to make sustainability the main topic for 2022. The aim is for winegrowers to meet the needs of society, act as co-creators, remain eligible for funding under EU policy reforms and last but not least to have a say on agricultural policy discourse. In order to be able to achieve this goal, we will be sticking with the spring date for the Congress as arranged.”

The organiser will make a slight adjustment to the schedule of the Congress. In order to be able to incorporate the results of the international Science Days on 11 and 12 April into the policy-related discussions which will take place shortly afterwards, the Wine Policy Day and the event entitled “The future of viticulture in the Danube region” on the effects of climate change will now take place a day later on 13 April 2022.

The International DWV Congress has been organized by the DWV since 1874. The purpose behind it is to safeguard the transfer of knowledge and experience between science and industry, as well as to create awareness of the needs of the wine sector among the political class and the general public. The 64th International DWV Congress will be held online from 11-13 April 2022.
